Interview With Hong Kong Mixed Star Hui Shiu Lun

1 – Can you give us a bit of a background of your Dodgeball playing career, and how you ended up representing your country?

I was play Dodgeball since 2013. I started to play single-dodgeball and coach it first. But I just play the multiple-dodgeball for 3 years ago. I am the first generation player in multiple-dodgeball and represented Hong Kong to join the Australia Asian dodgeball cup in 2015.

2 – Any highlights from your international career? Best games etc?

Back to 2015 Asian Dodgeball Cup, I thought my best game in my career which was Against Malaysia Team. It was the first time when Hong Kong player to play in multi-Dodgeball. I still remember that the game we lost, but I was catch two important in the same set of the game, and I was against three Malaysian players, but I can kill and catch them, finally we won this set.

3 – Hong Kong have qualified for the World Cup for the first time. How does it feel? Is there any nerves or pressure?

To be honest, I haven’t any pressure and nerves when we qualified for the World Cup. I just very excited and I can’t wait for it. But I still proud of our team can make it.

4 – In Hong Kong and some of our other member nations the Single-Ball Dodgeball game is immensely popular. How do the skills developed playing this style of dodgeball translate over to the Multi-Ball game? Do you think this experience will advantage Hong Kong players at the World Cup?

Single-Ball Dodgeball game focus on the defense skills which are catching and dodging. When only one ball throw to us, we will more easily to catch, and our defense may have more advantage in multi-Ball games. And the throw skills as same as throwing Single-Ball game, it is not big different but we throw the single-ball dodgeball with the longer follow through may lead the opponent counter on us.

5 – What’s your workout routine and training like in preparation for the 2018 Dodgeball World Cup? Any tips you can lend to aspiring dodgeball players?

We only have 2 training session per week in our team. Another workout may have the single-ball training and fitness training by ourselves.

6 – How does it feeling knowing that a few weeks you’ll be playing in one of the most famous stadiums in the world, Madison Square Garden?

That is s amazing for it. I have never think I can play in this stadiums or World cup match. So, I am excited for it.

7 – One of the core beliefs of the Asian Dodgeball Federation is our #StrongerTogether campaign. So we’d love for you to share your thoughts on who you believe some of the best players in Asia-Pacific are. Who should we be looking out for?

I believe the best team I could to say the players which is our Hong Kong Girls Team. They are stronger, smart, good catch players. And some of them are my student in single-dodgeball game, so I believe them can win for the World Cup.

8 – Any predictions for Hong Kong at the World Cup? Can Hong Kong win all the categories you qualified for?

I am afraid to say can Hong Kong can be the winner, but I will say we will try our best to do it.

9 – How do you think the other Asia-Pacific nations will go at the World Cup? Any nation you’d like to single out for being a favourite for success on this stage?

I think Malaysia is quick, strong attack which is the good team and well-trained.

I think the dimsum is best food in Hong Kong.
