Hong Kong To Host The Asian Dodgeball Championships 2019

The Asian Dodgeball Federation and the World Dodgeball Association has confirmed the Asian Dodgeball Championships 2019 will be held in Hong Kong. The 2018 Dodgeball World Cup Semi Finalists will host the tournament for the first time.

Speaking on behalf of the Dodgeball Association of Hong Kong, China following the announcement. Chairman Herbert Chiu discussed the importance of the ADC for developing dodgeball in the Asian region, and cementing Asia’s place on the global dodgeball scene.

“The Asian Dodgeball Championship (ADC) is a World Dodgeball Association (WDA) and Asian Dodgeball Federation (ADF) sanctioned event. This event is also a qualifying event for the Dodgeball World Cup. The ADF began the journey of the ADC in 2015 in Australia, then staged in Malaysia in 2017, the tournament has gone from strength to strength, cementing Asia’s place on the global dodgeball map.

On behalf of the Dodgeball Association of Hong Kong, China (DAHKC), I appreciate the ADF and its members for their dedication to building the sport of dodgeball in Asia and, in doing so, raising Asia’s profile as a world dodgeball sports hub.

Staging a festival of world class sport against the unique backdrop of Hong Kong is a source of immense pride for us. To celebrate the 3rd edition of the ADC in 2019, we are honoured to be playing a part in it. Inheriting from the landmark achievements of the former hosts, we commit to carrying the event, continuing to showcase world class dodgeball competition, whilst engaging the public and fostering a passion for the sport, leaving a legacy in the dodgeball history.”

Asian Dodgeball Federation President Emmanuel Tan, and General Secretary Christopher White praised the decision to award the bid to Hong Kong, and the DAHKC.

“We would like to congratulate the Dodgeball Association of Hong Kong, China on their successful bid to host the ADF Asian Dodgeball Championships 2019. We were convinced by the merits of the Hong Kong bid and firmly believe that the DAHKC will host a tournament that will match or surpass what we witnessed in Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne.

DAHKC have gone from strength to strength, and have positioned themselves as one of the leaders in developing dodgeball not only in the Asian region but worldwide. Their tireless efforts to develop the multiple ball types of the game should be used as an example of best practices in sports development. ”

This will be the third incarnation of the Asian Dodgeball Championships which serves as both the continental championship for the Asia and Oceania regions, and a qualifier for the 2020 Dodgeball World Cup. The 2017 tournament was held at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in which the hosts took out the gold in all three categories.
