Asian Dodgeball Championships

NOTE : THE 2021 ASIAN DODGEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD DUE TO COVID-19. THIS WILL BE UPDATED WHEN MORE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE

The Asian Dodgeball Championships (ADC) is the premiere dodgeball event throughout the Asia and Oceania regions. The ADC is held biennially and organised in conjunction by the host national federation and the Asian Dodgeball Federation. This event is also sanctioned by the world governing body, the World Dodgeball Association (WDA). In addition, the ADC also acts as a qualifying event for the Dodgeball World Cup, also held biennially by WDA.

The ADC became an official World Cup Qualifying event in 2015 when Dodgeball Federation Australia was named as the host. The event was staged in Melbourne. Participating nations included Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Australia managed to win gold in all 3 categories – Men’s, Mixed and Women’s divisions – securing their spots in the 2016 Dodgeball World Cup to be held in Manchester, England. Malaysia finished second in each category and therefore booked their tickets to Manchester’s World Cup.

The following year, the next edition of the ADC was hosted by the Malaysia Dodgeball Federation (MDF), staged in Kuala Lumpur in 2017. The MDF delivered a world class event, in what is widely regarded as one of the best international Dodgeball events in the sport’s history. A record 10 countries and regions participated, including Australia, Brunei, Hong Kong, Japan, India, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines and Singapore. Malaysia proved to be too strong, managing to win the Gold in all three categories.

In 2019, the ADC travelled to Hong Kong with the Dodgeball  Association of Hong Kong, China (DAHKC) as the host on this occasion. This edition included a total of four categories, with the inclusion of a junior representative division for the first time, the Under 21’s. There were nine participating nations, with two nations making their international debut at the ADC, those being Chinese Taipei and Korea. The other participating nations included Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines and Singapore. The medals were split for the first time in the tournament’s history, between Australia (Men’s and Mixed), Hong Kong (Under 21’s) and Malaysia (Women’s).

We look forward with great anticipation to many more events throughout the region, as we continue to see the development and growth of the sport through emerging and established dodgeball nations.
