Interview with Malaysian Women’s Star Charity Lim
1 – Can you give us a bit of a background of your Dodgeball playing career, and how you ended up representing your country?
I was introduced to dodgeball about 8 years ago and I’ve been loving the game ever since. In 2015, I got my first opportunity to represent Malaysia when my team qualified for an international dodgeball competition held in Las Vegas, USA where we competed against teams from other countries. Ever since then, I have been training really hard to secure a spot on the national team so I can once again represent my country in a sport that I am so passionate about.
2 – Any highlights from your international career? Best games etc?
One of my best performance in an international competition would definitely be the Invitational Competition that was held concurrently with the World Cup 2016 tournament in Manchester, England. We won first place in that tournament!
3 – Malaysia’s Women’s Team have qualified for the World Cup for the first time. How does it feel? Is there any nerves or pressure?
We are definitely feeling immense pressure as we did not manage to qualify during the previous World Cup competition. However, the girls’ team has been training really hard in preparation for the upcoming World Cup competition and we are most definitely going to do our best to put up a challenge against the other teams.
4- What’s your workout routine and training like in preparation for the 2018 Dodgeball World Cup?
Any tips you can lend to aspiring dodgeball players?. Since January this year, we have been going through tough fitness regimes and we have been sharpening our skills through drills and plenty of game time. Here’s a tip: Sleep and eat well, stay focused, and never let the fear get to your head. Always find new ways to do what everyone else is doing in order to stay one step ahead.
5 – How does it feeling knowing that in a few weeks you’ll be playing in one of the most famous stadiums in the world, Madison Square Garden?
I am super excited beyond words!! Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps. This is definitely an opportunity of a lifetime.
6 – One of the core beliefs of the Asian Dodgeball Federation is our #StrongerTogether campaign. So we’d love for you to share your thoughts on who you believe some of the best players in Asia-Pacific are. Who should we be looking out for?
I can’t single out any right now as I think there are many great players in Asia-Pacific. Besides, dodgeball is still a growing sport in this region so I’m sure many more superb players are in the up-and-coming!
7 – Any predictions for Malaysia at the World Cup? Can Malaysia win all three categories like at APC2017?
There are some really tough competition in the upcoming World Cup, but I believe that if we are able to carry out the strategies that we’ve been practising during our trainings and individually perform our very best, it is definitely possible for Malaysia to finish at the top of the podium for all three categories.
8 – How do you think the other Asia-Pacific nations will go at the World Cup? Any nation you’d like to single out for being a favourite for success on this stage?
For the women’s category, the Australian women’s team won champion in the 2016 World Cup so they are definitely worth looking out for.
Lastly some fun questions!
9 – Where is the best place to eat in Malaysia? And what’s your favourite Malaysian dish?
I love Fish Head Noodle! There is no one best place to eat in Malaysia as you can always find some sort of amazing dish just around any corner here.
10 – Which country in Asia-Pacific has the best food? Which dish is the best?
Malaysia, duh! Just kidding (maybe), that’s just me being biased. I really can’t say as I have not tried food from many other nations in Asia-Pacific. However, there is not a single person I know whom have tried Malaysian food and have not fallen in love thus far.
