Interview with Singapore’s Women’s Captain and Star Neo Yi Jie
1 – Can you give us a bit of a background of your Dodgeball playing career, and how you ended up representing your country?
I have been introduced to dodgeball about 5 ago and has been into it ever since. I started off playing with Outkast International until a few years back when I got through the national trails and into the national team training squad. From then on, I have been training together with the team for a spot and chance to represent Singapore.
2 – Any highlights from your international career? Best games etc?
APC where we qualify for World Cup 2018!
3 – Singapore have qualified for the World Cup for the first time. How does it feel? Is there any nerves or pressure?
Excited? Nervous? Proud? It’s a mixed feeling. We have been putting in a lot of effort and have been training hard for D day. Qualifying for the first time and bringing the name of Singapore to the world stage, it’s a big step forward for us!
4 – In the lead up to the World Cup Singapore have had a lot of team building exercises, training camps, group training etc. You seem like a very close-knit group of players. Do you feel this bond will take the team to another level and increase your chances at the World Cup?
Definitely! It’s not all just about the games or results that we achieve out of the World Cup. The team and the bond is what brings us further and stronger.
5 – What’s your workout routine and training like in preparation for the 2018 Dodgeball World Cup? Any tips you can lend to aspiring dodgeball players?
Be it strategically or physically, we have tripled our training since the start of the year. Any tips to give would be to be prepared, self discipline and definitely rest well!
6 – How does it feeling knowing that in a few weeks you’ll be playing in one of the most famous stadiums in the world, Madison Square Garden?
Excited!
7 – One of the core beliefs of the Asian Dodgeball Federation is our #StrongerTogether campaign. So we’d love for you to share your thoughts on who you believe some of the best players in Asia-Pacific are. Who should we be looking out for?
Best players in Asia? Nah.. #strongerTOGETHER!
8 – Any predictions for Singapore at the World Cup? Can Singapore win all the categories you qualified for?
Fifa has proven the theory, nothing is definite. Every country that qualifies is strong in their own ways and has something to prove. So long we play as we trained and planned, there’s possibilities to every slightest opportunity. Lets all hope for the best!
9 – How do you think the other Asia-Pacific nations will go at the World Cup? Any nation you’d like to single out for being a favourite for success on this stage?
Kudos to Australian women’s for clinching the champ in World Cup in 2016!
Lastly some fun questions!
10 – Where is the best place to eat in Singapore? And what’s your favourite national dish?
Wow. That’s a tough one. Changi village. You’ll find almost everything there!
11 – Which country in Asia-Pacific has the best food? Which dish is the best?
Haven’t been to all Asia-Pacific countries but as commonly known, Asia is a heaven for foodies. No matter which country you go, I can assure you we don’t disappoint!
